New York Fashion Week has quickly come and gone, leaving a thick dust of inspiration for fashionistas to apply to their wardrobes for next seasons big shindig. One of the many joys of the eight day long fashion exhibit was the opportunity to witness the talents of new and burgeoning designers. Misha was just one of the many fresh faces to make her fashion dreams come true by debuting her creations surrounding the events of fashion week. I stopped by the London designers Crown Jewels presentation to take a peek at her By Misha line. Along with colors the designer gave party goers lots of sequins,chiffon and satin to look at. I was joined by blogger, Yanique of My Documented Closet (who happens to be just as funny as she is stylish).

I had just approached the corner when the light turned red indicating that I had to halt for passing traffic. As I stood waiting patiently for the green signal a taxi slowly eased up aside me as it had been blocked by traffic ahead. In that second I noticed the very handsome passenger in the back of the taxi checking me out. Aowwww he’s feeling me (Brooklyn girl voice) I said to myself. However my excitement came to a crashing halt as mister handsome drifted his eyes from my face to my (wait for it) ....shoes. HUH? Yeah my shoes. And it wasn't any kind of glance it was a strong glance. Now I didn’t exactly have on red bottoms but I thought my work appropriate Ellen Tracy oxfords were pretty cute. So what was homeboy looking at? Before I could gather my thoughts and toss him the evil eye the taxi sped off just as quickly as it arrived. The light finally turned green and I headed across the street with the city noise being drowned out by my confusion. What just happened? Is this a new thing? Are fellas checking for a stellar shoe game these days? Ladies & Gents please chime in on this pretty please. I need answers.

The road to Whitney Eve

It all started with a tweet. I was in the middle of checking my twitter timeline when I saw that the folks over at very.com were sponsoring a giveaway. The winner would receive two tickets to the Whitney Eve runway show during New York Fashion Week (NYFW). To claim your prize all you had to do was tweet very.com a pic of yourself in one of your favorite outfits. Hunny Bunny when I tell you I was on a mission. I don't think I've ever twittered so fast. Fast forward a few days later, I check my twitter interactions and yours truly was a winner. Can somebody say Hallelujarrrrr (Madea voice).

So thanks to Very.com I was gonna be amongst all the other stylish boys and girls at New York Fashion Week. Come on folks lets hear it for very.com (Clap, Clap, Clap). Now on to the show. I made it to Lincoln Center in enough time to check in, make it into the tent and people watch. Off course there were a few star spottings. Tyson Beckford, Angela Simmons, Nigel Barker and Andrea Bailon were all in attendance. I even spotted People's Relvolution, Kelly Cutrone running the show in all her coolness (remember her from Bravo's Kell on Earth).

The lights finally dim and out come the girls. What I noticed almost instantly was the bright lips donned on each model. The collection had so much to offer with bright colors, florals, eye catching prints, sequins and even chunky knits. Reality star turned designer, Whitney Port did an amazing job in offering up variety and showcasing a young, fun and sophisticated look for fall. I was beyond excited to have an opportunity to attend NYFW for the very first time but even more ecstatic to have my first NYFW experience be a Whitney Eve show . Ahhh what a twitter story. Nolcha Fashion Week

Last Thursday, while most of the fashion world gathered over at the tents, I took a short detour on over to The Alvin Ailey Studios to take in Nolcha Fashion Week. Nolcha is a day long fashion event that showcases the talent and designs of independent fashion designers. In its six year run, the show takes place simultaneously with the grand Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. I sat in on two of four Nolcha shows and walked away with a few business cards, some star spottings (Adrienne Bailon and Kwame Jackson) and a new love affair for Teresa Rosati's creations. Rosati was one of the few designers featured in this years Nolcha Fashion Week. She is a polish designer who's expertise lies in creating evening, cocktail and wedding dresses. Despite my desire to see more practical everyday pieces I was impressed with her show. Rosati's creations left a lasting impression on the Nolcha crowd as well. In fact she struck a strong chord with a tangerine colored gown. The gown, adorned with beading and jewels on its front, hit the runway and was met with instant oo's and ah's. Texture on the Runway

There was a hair party going on last Saturday at City Winery . I joined in on this shindig to celebrate the variety of textured tresses with other curly, wavy, coily and kinky head divas at Naturally Curly's Texture on the Runway event. Texture on the Runway was created to showcase the variety of curly hair and to promote a conversation surrounding the absence of curly girls on the runway. In attendance for this one of a kind event was Youtube sensation Taren, Actress and Comedian Kim Coles, Blogger Afro Bella and Blogger Christina of Love Brown Sugar. The ladies were also joined by hair professionals Nick Arrojo of Arrojo Salon, Dickey of Hair Rules and Dr Hair of Curls Unleashed. The event featured a hair show and a synopsis from each brand about their product line and their commitment to curly hair. Go inside to see the hair party.

The Voice

I had been standing on the coat check line when the whispers first started. The whispers quickly turned to concerned chatter. By the time the news reached me I instantly brushed it off as the latest social media rumor mill that had gotten out of control. But soon folks were all a buzz that the news was indeed true and was being confirmed by credible news sources. I was stunned. Musical legend and icon, Whitney Houston was dead.

Off course I didn’t know Whitney Houston personally but I knew her voice . Like most of my peers Whitney’s music leapt into my lap and heart at a very young age. From the very beginning I was impressed with her undeniable talent and beauty and considered her to be the voice of my generation. Her “it” factor had little girls and boys wanting to be her and the pop charts falling in love with her.

I share so many memories with the small lady with the big voice. I remember “The Greatest Love of all” being the selected song of ceremony at every graduation I attended. I remember blasting “ I wanna dance with somebody” in my college dorm room thirteen years after its debut. I remember listening to “ I will always Love you” over a billion times. And I remember being moved to tears as she performed the “The Star Spangled Banner”.

While I can agree that her life was not squeaky clean and was often tainted with scandal, I still rooted for her. Like any true fan I was in her corner because Whitney was more than just a singer. She was a strong force in this industry that paved a trail for other artists to follow. Without her I don’t know if music would be the same. Our favorite songbird has been silenced but she will never be forgotten. Well always love you Whitney.

Prior to snatching up my cobalt blue jeans from target I had been lusting for a pair of colored denim for an eternity. After witnessing this trend make its way on my fellow bloggers pages and New Yorkers taking the trend to the streets, I thought it couldn't hurt to join in on the colored frenzy. Pixie Cut

Lately I've been looking for new ways to spice up my look. While in Harlem last week the idea of adding a new wig to spruce up my style was born after passing what seemed like a trillion beauty supply shops. So after passing shop number five I gave in and went diving for my new wig. In the midst of my search for the perfect fit I came across a Beverly Johnson human hair pixie cut wig. Now it wasn't exactly love at first sight but I did see potential. Before going natural I proudly rocked a rihanna cut for quite a while and loved it to pieces. So when I eyed this wig I thought it had that same kind of flair. After playing with it I decided that this wig was a go. Since then I'v worn it twice and gotta say that I like it. The upsides is that because it is human hair I can use heat on it and wash it as well. The fact that I haven't seen any shedding is also a plus.

I'm Lovin My: Polk Dot Shirt

A recent impromptu trip to Bolton's ended with me walking away with this lovely Polka Dot blouse. While browsing the sale section I quickly spotted (get it spotted) this beauty and without hesitation, snatched it up and headed to the counter to make my purchase. Since then Polka Dot and I have been inseparable. Partly because it goes with just about anything. So far pops of color have been the name of the game. Pairing this piece with bright tones has added an extra dose of personality to this already fun top.

There's a party going on round here

For whatever reason I typically don't get a chance to party it up on New Years eve. Well this year I put a stop to that and decided to step out on the town and shake my tail feather into the wee hours of the morning. I two stepped it in my stillettos with my girlies Sherrille, Amanda and Lakia by my side. As a group we wanted to find a low key yet still hip place to bring in the new year. Are prayers were answered when we stumbled on Aloft Hotel's Lounge, W XYZ Bar. The Aloft Hotel, which is nestled in Harlem's backyard, is super chic and was the perfect destination for our crazy, sexy cool celebration. Champagne flowed and party goers, with blow horns and party hats, bumped and grinded way past the ball dropping ( yeah there was definitely some dry humping going on) Since I hadn't been out for New Years in some time I wanted to dress to impress. So for the night I went with my curve hugging French Connection dress and kept it light on the accessories. My good ol' college roomie Sherrile, also kept it fancy in her grey Laundry dress and pixie cut. The night ended with my feet hurting like hell , being a witness to a few to many people hurling there guts out and my belly full from stuffing my face at IHOP. Quite the combo I know. Call me crazy if you want but I'd do it all over again. Happy New Year beauties!

For those of you who are unfamiliar Shecky's is a shopping event that feature vendors, giveaways and a swell goodie bag. As I perused each table I couldn't help but notice that there were accessories galore. I love me some accessories. It is my belief that a girl can never have to many accessories in her possession.

Happy Thursday beautiful people! I think by know you've probably guessed that my favorite color is red. There is something so electric about this bright hue that has me in a color love affair. So today while searching my closet for an outfit it was certainly a no brainer on deciding if I should go for jeans or my thrifted red pleated skirt. I've rocked this skirt a few times in the summer and was super excited to winterize this piece. Tights, layering and a good old coat all helped in putting this winterized look together.

Fierce Spotlight: Dezzi Dawn

Todays Fierce Spotlight goes to fellow Brooklynite Dezzi Dawn. Dezzi is the host and creator of Urban Perspectives, a talk show dedicated to providing a platform for discussion for issues faced by people of color. Her first show aired on public access station, Manhattan Neighborhood Network (MNN). Dezzi is now in the works of taping the second show. When asked to describe her style Dezzi answered " I don't know how to describe it." However she did share that she loves to shop in Macy's. Nothing sweeter than spending a Saturday with the editors of Teen Vogue and the latest fashions of Marc by Marc Jacobs. Yesterday I took my first steps into the well known department store Bergdorf Goodman to take in some music, sweets and fashion inspirations. The event featured Teen Vogue Editors top Marc for Marc Jacobs accessory picks for the soon to come holiday season. Party goers were treated to sweet treats, mocktails, a giveaway ( two lucky peeps walked away with a Marc Jacobs bag) and my favorite highlight since I wasn't among the bag winners was the Minx nail applications. Fierce Spotlight: Simone

With my almost daily visits to Sephora and mountains of beauty products taking a permanent residence under my bathroom sink it’s safe to say I’m a makeup fiend. And you know what I'm ok with that. Mostly because I know that I don’t stand alone in my obsession. In fact I found a good ol’ college friend, Simone who understands my unhealthy fascination with makeup, quite well. As I was browsing her FB pics (oh don't act like you don't stalk fb profiles too) I was amazed by her stunning makeup looks. It was hard to deny her talents with makeup. I knew right away that I had to share her creativity with the masses. After a few email exchanges she agreed to allow me to spotlight her and answered a few quick questions about her favorite products and how she got started with makeup.

1. What are your favorite products that you can't live without?
My favorite products that I can't live without would be MAC lipglass (but there are a few I adore like Viva Glam VI), Urban Decay eyeliner in Zero or Milani's blue eyes liner and Covergirl Lash Blast in black.

2. How did you get started with makeup?
I actually started playing with my mom's makeup basket when I was a kid. She had this blue eyeliner and bronze shadow that I completely coveted when she wasn't looking (lol).

3. Have you considered making makeup a career choice?
I have considered it for a long time.

4. What is your makeup advice to live by?
My advice would be to remember to exfoliate and moisturize.

Weekend at Grandma's

It was a pretty relaxing Saturday for me. I decided to take a trip on over to the Bronx and pay a visit to Grandma Lila. I chatted it up with her and got in her way once or twice as she prepared sweet potato pie. I instantly morphed into a little girl as I anxiously waited for the pie to be done. Asking every twenty seconds, "is it done yet". And let me tell you when it was done you better believe I tore my slice up. Ok maybe the three slices but hey judge don't me, it was good. After devouring my slices I decided to take a few pics of my outfit. The weather has taken a bit of a turn in NYC and we are officially in coat weather. I decided to layer my furry vest with my faux leather jacket to keep warm and to my surprise it did.

These five inch bad boys gained much attention for its very unique look. The towering booties closely resemble an ice skate. Last Saturday I stood on the sidelines in Brooklyn and witnessed a sports massacre committed by the boys in red, white and black, better known as the Boys & Girls High School Football team. Both squads, varsity and junior varsity, dealt huge butt whippings on Midwood - the opposing team- like they were put on this earth to do just that. Sorry Midwood (Kanye shrug). I cheered on not only as an alumni but a very much proud sis. Donning number fifty Isaac, my baby brother, had quite a game. In his second year on the team he is showing great dedication and sportsmanship. I couldn't be more proud. Congratulations Boys High!

For the big day, masculine inspired was the name of the game. However, I added my wedges and Grandma Lila's hand me down bag to make sure some feminine touches poked through.

Closet Shopping

Shecky's: Girls Night Out

The Shecky's Girls Night Out (GNO) affair puts new meaning to the term shop till you drop. Thursday night I tip toed on over to the La. Venue and Terminal Stores where the recent Shecky's GNO event was being held. This was my third go round participating in the shopping shindig sponsored by Shecky's. Much like the first two events, I had a blast sipping on cocktails, browsing the fabulous vendors and taking in the busy scenery. If you've never gone to a Shecky's event, in a nutshell it one big shopping party filled with discounts, giveaways, makeovers and my favorite thing of all, goodie bags. It's a shopping experience that every diva should make it their business to attend. GNO allows you the opportunity to discover a variety of talented up and coming designers and boutiques all while enjoying the company of a few friends and a cocktail or two (ok maybe more). Go inside to see some of the new budding talents and accessories that caught my eye.

My heart definitley skipped a beat or two when I came across the Moetleh clutches. Made of recycled leather scraps each bag is handmade by artist and owner Winnie Burch. After drooling over her bags I quickly chit chatted with her and learned customers have the option to customize their own clutch. How great is that. Aside from her clutches, Burch is also known for her creations of customized cards and messages.

Just across the way was designer Serwah Asante of Rue 114. Asante's Ghanaian background is front and center in her designs with bold prints and textures leading this collection. Each clutch is designed and handcrafted by Asante, who is also in the works of creating a clothing line as well.

On my search to hunt down the mac cheese food vendor that was present at GNO I came across Tasha Carter of Behind the Scene Studio Boutique. Her edgy accessories halted my search for food for the next ten minutes as I glanced over her statement medallions and head turning hoops.

By this time of the night I had downed my mac and cheese (boy was it good) and was close to heading out but before I could do that I stopped by to view Adorn. Since going natural I've been on the prowl for unique pieces to accessorize my growing fro. Designer Raqquyah provides just that with her line of jewelry, Adorn New York. At first glance of Raqquyah I immediately noticed her "Leather Wrap" earrings dangling from her ears. During our quick exchange I learned that Raqquyah makes all of her jewelry by hand.

As the event winded down I took my goodie bag, achy feet and much tipsy self on home. Happy that I had the opportunity to attend GNO once again and elated to have met some amazing talents. Stand out red lips are definitely one of the many things that I will be sporting this fall and winter. All variations from rusty reds to maroons, to gloss to mattes, I'm game for it all. Although this attention grabbing look is classified as more of a night time look wearing it in the day is not unheard of. Achieving a bold red lip for the daytime is quite simple. The key is to keep the eyes neutral. A bit of concealer, eyeliner, mascara and a neutral eyeshadow is all you'll need to play down those eyes. Yesterday evening, In the newly opened Neely’s BBQ Parlor, My grandmother and I sat ,ate, laughed and reminisced as we celebrated her birthday a day early. We often get to share a good ol' chit chat over a hot cooked meal but typically one she has prepared for Sunday Dinner. Never without accessories and with no garment misplaced, she came dressed for the occasion in a light grey cowl neck sweater paired with dark crisp denim jeans and a blazer. An outfit that was no fuss and all chic at the same time. No surprise to me as I have always known my Grandma Lila ( as my siblings and I call her) to be quite the trendsetter. One of my earliest memories were of her making weekend family visits to Brooklyn. She would saunter into our apartment with the fragrance of White Linen following directly behind her and leaving a lovely presence when she left. Draped in threads that seemed royal like, neighbors off course looked on. In amazement and awe I also gawked as she carried herself with such grace. It was a model of inspiration that I often now mimic as I have grown into womanhood. In present day she continues to be a great example of how a lady should carry herself in the world and I am forever grateful for all of the life lessons she has shared. So on her special day I not only want to wish her a happy birthday but I'd like to celebrate her positive influence. Happy Birthday Grandma Lila! Thank you for all that you do and all that you'll continue to do. Your work never goes unnoticed. I love you!

Buy the Bag

Last Saturday I took off to Queens to share in Housing Works much talked about Buy the Bag event. After a minor address mix up and an unneeded tour of Queens I finally made it to the warehouse where the buying frenzy was held. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Buy the Bag is a thrifting event sponsored by Housing Works where attendees can purchase clothing and accessories by the bag, priced at $25 per bag load. I was able to walk away with some cool stuff but will say that it was quite the experience. I walked in to the warehouse only to see swarms of people and clothing just about everywhere but the ceiling. With only about hour to do my shopping I had no time to take in the crazy scene. I jumped in thrifter mode and went sailing for some wardrobe treasures. Click inside to see what I picked up .

According to the Housing Works website there are three more Buy the Bag events set and ready for more thrifting madness. If you'd like to attend and need more info check out the Housing Works website here. Now before you mozy on down to the warehouse here are a few tips that will prepare you for a better shopping experience.

1. Bring extra bags.

Although Housing Works provides the bag in which you have to stuff your things in to make your final purchae having an extra bag will assist you while shopping and when you are lugging all of your goodies home.

2. Bring Gloves

You will be touching just about everything under the sun so bring gloves to keep your hands safe and germ free.

3. Don't expect an orderly way of shopping

If you don't like an unorganized way of shopping please don't go. You will not be happy. Clothes will not be hung from pretty fixtures or folded down in neat sections but it will be tossed around in large bins and dare I say it even scattered on the floor.

Last Thursday night I hightailed it on over to the Royalton Hotel to check out the talented KJ Rose's showcase. If you missed my feature I did on Rose a few posts back you can check out her Spotlight here. With recent musical mentions from BET Music Matters and Elle Magazine under her belt the stylish songstress continues to make her mark on the industry. Last week Rose took to the stage at the Royalton draped in a beautiful Parker dress partnered with edgy accessories. Her look was captivating and electrifying just as her performance. She stood strong and confident at the mic belting out songs off her album "All Heart, No Regrets". Rose even served the crowd a bit of old school as she closed the show with "Young Hearts Run Free". Hot off the beauty presses. Ricky's NYC and Mattese Elite present their brand spanking new nail polish line, The Zombie Collection. The collection of six muted colors debuted in stores this week. Although I am a vibrant hue kind of girl I was surprised at how these pale tones stood strong on their own. During a quick visit to Ricky's I sampled the colors and I have to say Dead Punk Rocker, Decaying Green and Living Dead are my picks for this line. No need to break the bank when creating great makeup looks. With cost friendly palettes like wet n wild's "vanity", you can tap into your inner makeup artist and start beating your face away. To create my soft bronzy every day look I started out with one of my favorite must haves, urban decay primer as a base for my eyes. After I applied the base from lid to brow (a little goes a long way) I then applied the golds and browns from the palette. For the finished look I added two coats of Maybelline's Stiletto Lash mascara to my lashes.

The sidewalks of New York were all a buzz last night with the celebration of Fashion’s Night Out. The Fashion Week kickoff brought swarms of fashion enthusiasts out to play in the loads of festivities. I was one of the many who participated and my first stop was Macy’s Herald Square. I dropped in to see Designer, Rachel Roy and New York Knicks Forward, Amar’e Stoudemire (Yes he‘s fine). If you haven’t heard both Roy and Stoudemire joined forces to create a new collection of women’s casual wear for Rachel Roy‘s line. The collection is described as a "courtside apparel for the fashion-forward female”.

There were trendsetters in every nook and cranny but I only managed to get a quick shot of two very stylish ladies

Only because my feet were killing me, my next and final stop was Lord & Taylor. As with Macy’s, Lord & Taylor had many celebrity and designer appearances. Solange Knowles was among that list. Knowles put it down on the ones and twos as she brought the crowd to their knees with a bit of old school Prince and Whitney Houston. It was good times all around.

Last Friday, I bolted out of my apartment like an olympic sprinter and made my way to the Columbus Circle train station as fast as I could. I was in a mad dash as I was running late for the lovely Antaya McKenzie’s first fashion show, The Black Leather Jacket Project. The twenty something Brooklyn born fashion fanatic, who also happens to be my cousin, has been talking about her debut spring preview of young upcoming designers for almost eternity. “I cannot be late”, I whispered to myself as I boarded the A train. Thirty minutes and one panhandler later I somehow make it to the rooftop venue right in the nick of time. Before heading to my seat I ventured over to the bar area to devour the most delicious mini cupcakes that ever existed (Not kidding. I think I inhaled about five of those bad boys.) and then downed a glass of moscato. Ok now it's Showtime!

The show opens with designer, Denise Gray. Gray showcased a collection that was feminine yet edgy filled with blazers and bold printed bottoms. The line combined practicality with a fresh look for the everyday woman looking to stay comfortable and fabulous. Next up was Chris Willis of Smiles Tees, a collection of t-shirts, tanks and sweatshirts. Willis designs are not your average basics as he brilliantly combines art with touches of fashion. Up next was Kathy Rosa. Rosa’s collection is fused with muted tones and textured pieces. It left me feeling very romantic. Last to hit the runway was Ashley Padmore. There was definitely something for every lady in this collection. Leather, flared trousers, full skirts and bold prints were all present here. Padmore collection gave off sexiness with class.

Amongst the crowd taking in all this new raw talent were shade and accessories designers twins Coco & Breezy, Rae Holiday of Stuff Fly People Like and Hia York of New Taste Magazine. I was of course super proud of McKenzie for pulling off such an amazing show but I also couldn't help but to feel inspired. I walked away from this experience taking a very important life lesson with me. No matter how big or small your dreams are get out there and just do it. Mistakes will be made but that kiddos is life. Embrace life and live out your dreams to the fullest. As for McKenzie she's continuing her love affair with fashion and plans on doing a show for next year. Can you believe it? September has crept up to us and now the days of warm and sunny weather have become numbered. With the countdown in full effect I wandered out and about to get my piece of sunshine, while it lasts, and strutted my stuff in my new thrifted skirt. Yes I did honey (LOL).

I came across this neon great, off course while thrifting, at the Salvation Army. With out a doubt it was the color that leaped out and caught my attention, however what sealed the deal for the purchase was the perfect fit. It laid against my curves as if it were tailored for me. Her album "All Heart, No Regrets" has recently caught the attention of BET and Elle Magazine with many others following suit. Like most of you thrifting fiens, I often find myself spending an eternity in cramped aisles of thrift shops buried under mountains of clothing hoping to find wardrobe treasures. So much so that I‘ve diagnosed myself as a thrifterholic. That’s right I’m a thrifterholic and this lady right here is not ashamed to admit it. I am unashamed in my admission partly because I’ve walked away with some of the most amazing pieces on my thrifting binges. They’ve mainly been blazers but they are great staples none the less.

There is nothing like walking into a thrift store and finding “It”. “It” may be that little black dress you’ve been searching ages for or that trendsetting piece that you absolutely refuse to drop a whole paycheck on. Hmm cuz rent is to damn high. (insert laughter here) Whatever “it” is you can bet you’ll be hooked to the thrifting game and I can guarantee you, like me, you'll be addicted. Adios Mio! Why won’t it grow faster? Fierce Beauties, I am having a bit of a “moment”. Lately I have been growing impatient with my snail pace hair growth. After completing my big chop in February of this year I fully accepted that it would take time for my hair to attain length, or so I thought. Now six months down the line I am constantly comparing my big chop photos with my current photos and can’t help to think to myself besides the color my hair looks exactly the same (insert confused face). Greetings my fierce beauties. As mentioned in a few posts back, I had the opportunity to participate in a photoshoot with amazing photographer Melissa Blemur. I promised you guys that I'd share with you the ending results. Well the wait is over. The pictures are finally in.

On that warm and beautiful Saturday morning Melissa and I took to the streets of NYC's meatpacking district and created photo magic. Everything seemed to flow so effortlessly. Each location seemed to have its own personality and oddly matched each outfit. Birthday Boy

Dressed in all H&M everything, (well except the G-shock watch) my brother Jeremiah rang in his twenty-first birthday with a day and night on the town. He chose a casual look for his adventures through the city and I think it did him justice. He enjoyed his day with his girlfriend, friends and myself. We munched on bbq wings, laughed, took pictures and hung from the chandelier. Ok maybe not that last part, but we had fun. Happy Birthday Jeremiah.

Spotlight: The Killer Whale

Although this blog is dedicated to showcasing beauty trends and personal style, I can't help but to sing to the mountain tops about the talents of four young ladies. Janelle Heatley, Jaylene Clark, Hollis Heath and Chyann Sapp (not pictured) are the creative forces and players behind the thought provoking theatrical production, Renaissance in the Belly of a Killer Whale. The story delves into issues ranging from gentrification within Harlem to the all out love affair with Harlem. The ladies showcase their talents through a mixture of song, dance (yes Ms. Clark is doing a mean dougie LOL) and spoken word poetry. I've had the chance to view this play twice and was amazed each time. The ladies will begin their second round of shows at the Time Square Arts Center in New York City, beginning July 17th and will run until August 16th. If your find yourself in the New York City area during these times please do yourself a favor and go see this production. Fierce Files: Smokey Eye

I can't begin to tell you how much I love a smokey eye. I often sport this look when I'm having a night on the town. However, depending on the intensity of the colors it can be worn both night or day. I try my best to play with different hues and create a smoldering eye with brown, gold, pink or even green. I opted for green this time around, using my recently purchased E.L.F palette. Take a peek and see how it turned out.

Steps to a Easy Smokey Eye

Be sure to prep eye with primer or concealer before beginning steps

1. Apply black eyeliner to upper lash line.

2. Using brush, smudge liner from lower lid to crease (or use fingers to smudge)

3. Apply eyeshadow color of choice to lower lid and blend

4. Apply a lighter eyeshadow color of choice along crease and blend

5. Line lower inner lash line with black eyeliner pencil

6. Add mascara to lashes

There is just something about the sight of bright hues that makes my heart skip a beat. With summers arrival, we can expect to see lots of bright colors being worn. More than usual this time around because of the much talked about trends such as color blocking and neon brights. This electrifying cobalt blue top is just the pop of color I needed to turn this outfit from drab to fab. The added accessories are just an added dazzle. Stay Fierce!

A Natural Decision

February 5, 2011 I dived head first into the natural hair world. After transitioning for six confusing months, I did away with the last of my relaxed ends and completed my big chop. Since my cut I have become….you’ve guessed it a product junky. Chances are if I’ve heard of a “great” hair product you can believe its now presently sitting under my bathroom sink. Don’t Judge. Although this habit is putting quite the dent in my wallet it has also proven itself to be beneficial in other ways. Testing various hair products has allowed me to figure out what does and doesn't work for my natural tresses. Through my addiction I have been able to discover great staple products. Here are a just a few that have worked for me.

1. Jojoba Oil:
Provides shine and locks in moisture

2. Coconut Oil:
Provides shine and can be also used on skin as a moisturizer

3. Giovanni Direct Leave in Conditioner:
Daily Light Moisture Booster.

4. Shea Moisture Curl & Shine Shampoo:
Cleans hair without stripping natural oils. No sulfates, parabens or mineral oils

5. Eco Styler Gel ( Olive Oil, Argan Oil or Clear):
Amazing curl definer with good hold. Warning: If used to often can be drying.

Its a Tribal thing

I absolutely adore these tribal print shorts I snagged from Kmart a few weeks back. Yes honayyyy. You heard right, Kmart. I'll admit, I was a little hesistant in purchasing them when I first laid my eyes on them but to my surprise they turned out to be quite a steal. What do you guys think? Will you guys be following the tribal trend this season?

Finally, I have put my fingers to work and started my blog. I have been talking about starting this open diary what almost seems like forever and tada here it is. My new baby. She shall be called ……I wanna be fierce. Yassss honayyyyy, fiercccce (Rupal Voice). Te he he he. Just kidding.
