I Wanna Wear A Cape

Thrifting is soooo Bae and let me tell you why. You probably have somewhat of a hint as to why If you've been following me for a while.  If you're new here you should know that I may or may not be a thrifting addict. (Ackward silence) Ok I am. Now that that's clear lets get into why me and thrifting will always be boo thangs lol.  So a few months back I took a quick trip to Toronto. While there I mozied on down to Kensington Market, an area in Toronto known for its specialty stores and diverse food choices.  What it also happens to include are some of thee most amazing thrift and vintage stores.  So you know your girl was in heaven. As I started to pop in and out of each thrift shop I noticed a theme.  Almost every shop had an amazing selection of coats and capes.  Now folks you should know I’ve been wanting to buy  a cape for the longest time but nothing really was saying ‘you should buy me’ until I saw it. Yes it! I walked into Exile, Kensingtons Costume and Vintage Mecca expecting to browse and walk away with nothing much more than a look  here and a comment or two of ‘that’s cute’ there but most importantly empty handed. That all changed as I walked to the back of the store.  In the back on a mannequin sat the cape of my dreams.  There was an instant confirmation that this cape was coming home with me. It was perfect. It was my favorite color, it provided just the drama I wanted in a cape and most importantly it was timeless.  I knew that I could never find a cape with this kind of quality and this price point at any other store.  And that folks is why thrifting will always be my Bae.  When was the last time you went thrifting? I Wanna Wear Midi Skirts

A few weeks ago Essence Magazine held their 2nd Annual Street Style Block Party in Dumbo, Brooklyn.  If you've never heard of the event, it's exactly what it sounds like, a party in the street mixed in with tons of fashionistas and vendors galore.  While I wasn't able to make last years Block Party I made sure to skip on down to attend this years affair. Prepping myself for the event, I knew two things. One, I wanted to be comfortable and two I was going to break out my new Midi Skirt.  With those two things in mind I grabbed my Chucks, Midi Skirt  and button down shirt. Voila.  For the finishing touches I added my Stilla Lipstick, mustard colored purse and cat eye shades.  I thought the look worked perfectly.  What do you think?

                             

I wanna wear: Prints

I'm convinced that prints and I are just meant to be together. We have this kind of relationship where it's just meant to be. It's totally a girls best friend. Well maybe not a best friend but certainly an very fond associate lol.   While I believe that everyone woman should have at least one bold print statement piece in her closet I realize that not everyone embraces prints.  I know bold prints can be a bit intimidating at first but it's really a great way to spruce up an outfit.  If you're not a print loving kind of girl here are a few tips to get you started down the print lane.

Brights:
Pairing a print with a bright color is one way to rock prints. It's adds an extra pop to an already lively outfit.

Mix and Match:
Now if you are bold and love to take risk definitely try mixing and matching prints.  Start out  with a leopard and a stripe pairing and then take it from there.

Accessorize:
Don't forget that you can play up prints using your favorite accessories like a turban or those cool shades you love.

I Wanna Review: Bella Lush

Hey, Curvy Girls!  Guess what?   There’s a new brand in town that’s catering to our lingerie needs. It’s Bella Lush.   Bella Lush is a lingerie online shop that was created with curvy girls and all of our lusciousness in mind (See what I did there).   Their Bras and Panties sets are not your grandmothers underwear ladies. Bella Lush offers fashionable and sexy options for voluptuous ladies, ranging in a wide variety of sizes. Bras start from 32 C and go to a 40 FF.   I chatted briefly with the creator of Bella Lush, Drea Phillips, during the Bella Lush’s launch and she shared that the idea that sparked this venture was lack a of quality lingerie options for curvy women in the marketplace.  So she decided to create more options and I’m so glad she did.

I had the pleasure of trying out one of the Bella Lush sets.  I tested the waters with the Dove Gray Print (Modeled Cup) Bra and the matching panty (Just so you know, both items are sold separately).  The bra and the panty featured small touches of lace with a grey and lavender print.  I of course fell in love with the lace because it added a very luxe feel but it was the support and coverage that won me over. As a top heavy woman who often has issues with finding quality bras to fit I have to say I was impressed.  I can see this set being my go to when wearing items that are form fitting. A Girl in a Plus Size World

Plus size fashion has come a long way. From elastic waist jeans and mumuus, to fitted tops and skinny jeans.  It's about damn time the fashion industry realized that we like to look cute and fashionable too. Skinny chicks (no offense) aren't the only ones who can work an outfit.I must admit, I wasn't always comfortable with being plus size. Like so many women, I would wear baggy clothes to try and hide my body. When in reality I was only making myself look bigger. Once I embraced my curves, I started to have fun with fashion.  My best fashion advice for ALL women is to wear clothes that flatter your specific body type. I can't stand to see a woman who could have it going on, if only her shirt or pants were a little bit bigger.Some of my curvy girl inspiration comes from blogs such as this one (I'm not just saying that bc she's my homegirl LOL), gabifresh.com, & donnadaily.com, just to name a few. Just because a blog is not catered to plus size fashion, doesn't mean you can't get great ideas from it and tailor them to fit your own personal style. So for all you curvy girls who may feel you cannot rock the latest fashion trends, I want you to grab a friend, get out the house, and try some stuff on. Then repeat after me...I'm Curvy, Natural, & Loving It!
