Lowkey

It's certainly a lowkey Saturday for me friends. The kind that has faux furs, dark shades and kicks all mixed in.  Speaking of kicks I've had these high top sneakers for quite some time. Today was my first time sporting them after constant thoughts of giving these bad boys the boot.  The verdict after one wear?  I think I kind of like them.  So I guess that means they'll be sticking around a little longer (shrug). Have you ever had an item of clothing that was very close to getting the fashion boot?

Sandy's Wish List

Like many folks along the east coast I've been a sitting duck for the last two days all thanks to Sandy.  Like any normal person in this situation I've been stuffing my face every two seconds, catching up on TV sitcoms via Netflix and off course internet shopping/browsing.  See what Sandy is doing to me.  She's turning me into a shopaholic who will more than likely end up gaining an extra five pounds.  Damn you Sandy.  Here are a few things that I've been eyeing.

Sending prayers to those who were  affected by the Hurricane.

On Trend: Dark Lips

Lipstick: Wet N Wild's Mega Last Lip Color Cherry Bomb (918D)

Dark Lips are having the best year ever, aren't they?  Ok maybe the "best year ever" statement is a bit much  but its certainly become pretty popular these days in the beauty world.  This weekend I was able to dip into the trend while on a quick drugstore run.  It started with me picking up a few things for my apartment  and  somehow ended with me venturing off to the makeup section ( Am I the only one that does that?).  After wondering the aisles for less than a minute I picked up Wet N Wild's  Mega Last Lip Color in "Cherry Bomb"( 918D ) .  Wasting no time I tried it on the second I got home.  Gotta say I love the way it looked and was impressed.  The deep berry toned lippie has a semi-matte finish and goes on pretty smooth. And did I mention that it's only $2.  Yeah Buddy (In my Pauly D voice off course)!   For those of you beauties who'd love to try out the dark lip trend without breaking the bank this lipstick is a great choice.

Have you tried the dark lip trend yet?

The Sole of the matter

My New Flats
Of course I’d be a liar if I told you that I didn't love heels.  Whether it’s stilettos, platforms or my go to wedges, I've fallen hard for sky high footwear.  Like any Sex and the City fan, I have this recurring  dream of myself  hitting  the sidewalks of  New York City in the baddest stilettos daily, as the soundtrack in my head blares Empire State of Mind while my cute twist out is blowing in the wind.  Unfortunately that dream will have to remain a dream for the time being.  Well at least the stilettos part.   Why you ask?  For starters my poor soles simply wouldn't make it past noon if I tried that in reality.  I do entirely too much walking for that to go down. If I’m not walking to the subway, I’m walking to the bus stop if not there then it's to the grocery store.  Point made, Shakiyla's feet are always on the move.   With all that constant feet movement I need footwear that won’t have my footsies screaming in agony from foot pains. You know the kind of foot pain where you’d rather walk barefoot on the germ crawling concrete than to take another step in your stunning heels.  Ay yay yay the memories.   So to rule out all that foot aching jazz all together I opt for flats sometimes.  There is such a wide variety when it comes to flats.  We can choose from different patterns, textures and even different shapes.  With all these exciting options at our reach there’s no worries were sacrificing style for comfort. Take a peek at a few cute flat options below.

How often do you wear flats?

Instacap

I'm sure Instacap is not a word but I just felt the need to conjure something up as I shared my Instagram weekend with you beauties.  It was nothing new for me in my world just the same ol hairstyle experimentation taking place, mixed in with cobalt blues and a little booty action (not what you think). What did you guys get into this weekend?

Skin: The Basics

Who hasn’t been down the road of those ugly embarassing face breakouts?  I know I have.  With sensitive skin like mines I try my best to keep my regimen simple in an effort to keep those “what happened to your face” comments from ruining my day.   My concrete go to’s for the past few months have been Trader Joes face wash with tea tree oil, Witch hazel and Trader Joes enrich moisturizer. Sounds pretty plain I know but these products get the job done and it’s cheap.  Definitely not knocking the fancy smancy products in the department stores because this ol girl has ventured  off on the wild side a time or two and experimented with serums and anti aging creams.  But for the most part  these bad boys have been my staples.  What are your skin care staples?

Yes to the shorts

Last week I reached out to my FB friends for a little a help.  On a recent trip to Zara  I was torn on a pair of shorts I had tried on in the fitting room.  Were they to short, too tight or just right?  I couldn't decide and left these bright bottoms right on the rack and said goodbye.  Although I bid the shorts farewell I continued thinking that I made the wrong choice so did what any normal person would do.  I took to FB in search  for another set of eyes to help me decide.  My FB peeps sounded off with a Yes to the shorts all the way.  With their opinions in mind I hurried back over to Zara and got my shorts.  I'm happy I did.  Me likey!

Turban to the rescue

There are moments when styling my hair takes me to a complete dark side. I get inpatient, my hands get sweaty and I'm sure I'm not in the best of moods.  But today was a little different.  After completely giving up on getting my hair to work this morning I started looking for something to mask my not so cute mane. I knew I had a scarf that I bought sometime ago and decided to try out a turban look.   A twist there and a tuck there and this is what I got.  Would you try the turban look?  If you've already dived into this look I would for you to share them with me on my Twitter and Facebook pages.

Forget Me Not

So here's the story.  I'd put my Michael Kors printed dress in the cleaners almost a century ago.  Not sure why but I had completely forgot about it up until last week.  When it finally dawned on me I quickly hurried over to the cleaners to retrieve it.  I make it over to the cleaners and was met with this from the cleaners attendant, "I started to call you about this dress.  We had a few ladies that wanted to buy it from us."  I quickly answered " Are you kidding me".  "Nope" he quickly snaps back.  Wow!  One more day and my lovely frock may have been sold to the highest bidder.  Yikes.

A Girl in a Plus Size World

Tajuana Shyanne

Plus size fashion has come a long way. From elastic waist jeans and mumuus, to fitted tops and skinny jeans.  It's about damn time the fashion industry realized that we like to look cute and fashionable too. Skinny chicks (no offense) aren't the only ones who can work an outfit.I must admit, I wasn't always comfortable with being plus size. Like so many women, I would wear baggy clothes to try and hide my body. When in reality I was only making myself look bigger. Once I embraced my curves, I started to have fun with fashion.  My best fashion advice for ALL women is to wear clothes that flatter your specific body type. I can't stand to see a woman who could have it going on, if only her shirt or pants were a little bit bigger. Some of my curvy girl inspiration comes from blogs such as this one (I'm not just saying that bc she's my homegirl LOL), gabifresh.com, & donnadaily.com, just to name a few. Just because a blog is not catered to plus size fashion, doesn't mean you can't get great ideas from it and tailor them to fit your own personal style. So for all you curvy girls who may feel you cannot rock the latest fashion trends, I want you to grab a friend, get out the house, and try some stuff on. Then repeat after me...I'm Curvy, Natural, & Loving It!

Happy Birthday Ms. Fierce!

So here we are. One year and some eighty posts later.  My does time fly when your busy blogging.  This time last year I had settled into my apartment for the evening and was crawled up on my couch with  laptop in hand, drafting my first post for this thing called,  I wanna be fierce.   I had no real expectations for my new found adventure because I really had no idea of what to expect from this world of blogging.  The only thing I knew for sure was that I had become some what of a stalker   (yup not ashamed to admit it), frequenting my favorite blogs almost daily.  The thought of starting a blog of my own had played in my mind quite a few times but was always met with no action.  But on this night it was different.  I moved my fingers swiftly against the keyboard  and conjured up a quick introduction and with one click my first post was live in the land of cyberspace.  Just like that my blogging journey began .  I must say this year has been one of those unforgettable experiences.  Some of my highlights:  Attending NY Fashion Week (story here), being honored with spotlights from Vibe Vixen, Stylish Curves, and 4-Lexi.  Meeting some awesome bloggers and most importantly interacting with you guys.  My readers, supporters, friends, family, blogging buddies, subbies, and followers. Thank You Beauties!  Thank You for your time, comments, tweets, likes and your overall genuine support. I appreciate each and every one of you and hope you'll continue to follow me on my fierce journey.   Until next time beauties.

Flare it out

When it comes to flare pants I can't help but associate them with the seventies.  It instantly reminds me of that era.  A time where it seemed all was carefree and everyone and their first born was a hippie.    Well I dived into my inner flower child today and donned my Loft flare trousers.  My hair was pretty basic with a "little house on the prairie" twist down and a striped Tee.

Hats Off

We wanted to keep it relaxed and casual for Memorial Weekend.  So when Harlem foodie, Lakia recommended a wine tour for the day, the girls and I were more than pleased with the idea.  With our hats in tow we headed to Long Island Wine Country.  We sipped, ate and laughed amongst ourselves until it was time to head back to the big city.  Since our theme for the day was centered around hats I pulled out my thrifted fedora for the day.

How did you guys spend your Memorial Weekend?

Black Girls Run in style

Last Night I made my way over to Phyto Universe to help celebrate the three year anniversary of Black Girls Run (BGR).  The organization was founded by Toni Carey and Ashley Hicks with the hopes of creating a support system for female runners of all levels.  Since its birth in 2009,  BGR has set out on a mission to make health and fitness a top priority for African American Woman.  Both ladies have created a movement that is responsible for over fifty running groups across the U.S.

Carey and Hicks were both in attendance for the festivities and looked very chic making their rounds.  Carey dazzled in a denim top and polka dot skirt while Hicks shined in a bright cocktail dress. Along with few snaps of the stars of the night I was also able to sneak some shots of a few party goers who I thought were beyond chic.
